I searched the forum but couldn’t find another discussion about this, apologies if this is something everyone has already figured out.
On my vertical set up, I have had trouble with the sled wanting to tip over if it was cutting close to the edge of the board, most noticeably at the top.
After a couple cut where I needed to shepherd the sled whenever it got into the top quadrant, I had an idea and tried it out.
I put some 1x6 strips outside of the cutting area and then cut out some coroplast surface sheets and screwed them in place to “catch “the sled when it supposed to be edge. Coroplast is the plastic cardboard that’s commonly used in signs; my wife has a bunch of obsolete real estate signs we use for projects and it was a perfect fit for this.
I have a 1/2 inch spoil board and I’m cutting 1/2 inch plywood, so this combination is almost directly straight across from the top of the material. it catches the sledge and keep it from ticking when it near the edges.
Apologies if I have “discovered” something everyone else did months ago, my journey started a little later than I meant to so I’m still playing check up. It here in case it is of value to anyone else.
