Belt got mangled during calibration

Hi:

I was performing calibration on my Maslow4 when one of the cassettes was trying to extend more belt. Unable to pull in the slack in time, one of the belts got mangled in the idler gear. Can I get a replacement belt? Thank you

Randy

Absolutely, DM your address to @anna and we’ll get you one in the mail tomorrow

Received the belt today. Thank you! Reassembled Maslow and lowered Z. Retracted all belts without any hiccups. Will calibrate tomorrow. Thanks again.

Good morning,

I am running a Maslow 4.1 and ran into this problem as well yesterday. Since it was close to the end of the belt, I opted to cut 65 cm off the belt to continue using the Maslow.
Afterward that particular paddle needed 2400 threshold to fully retract vs. the 900 of the other 3, so I believe so I believe that the belt guard is broken inside the paddle. Also the belt kept getting hung up on the teeth of the spool as it was retracting. I will replace the guard with a 3D printed belt guard today.

On a side note, I noticed there was a drastic sound difference from the motors during extension and retraction. The right side that had the paddle in question was much louder than the left side.

So, do I need to replace the belt? Should I cut 65 cm off the other belts so they are at a similar radius in their spooling?

I will be inspecting the paddle, making sure there are no broken bits or anything loose in there while changing the part, but is there anything else I am missing while doing this repair that would make it run smoother afterward?

Thank you!

it’s really going to be hard to tell until you disassemble that arm.

when you have the arm apart, make sure the spool moves freely on both halves of
the arm (and sand the spool until it does) make sure the gear on the motor isn’t
touching the plastic and the setscrews are tight. Also check that the motor is
tight to the gearbox (not a common problem, but while you have things apart…)

you do not need to worry about the belts being different lengths (as long as
they are long enough for your frame)

David,

Thank you for the reply and advice.
I did check movement of the spool, motor and gearbox all seemed secured.
I did end up changing the belt guard because I noticed a crack in the plastic between the two bearing holes. Also I ended up sanding the spool down a bit: There seemed to be little nubs at the locations of the gear teeth. I don’t know if they were big enough to really affect the belt, but I figured while I had it apart I would reduce those down a bit
I think overall I just had some bad luck when extending the belts with the new spools the first time.

When I just extended and retracted it as a test I was able to retract with a force of 900, so I am back down to what I would consider normal. I will try to cut something tomorrow.

Thanks again!
