Belts bunching up during calibration

I recently got a new board from china because one of the z-axis motors wasn’t working, so I flashed the firmware to 1.08 (released yesterday) and went to do the basic calibration and the belt got all bunched up and tangled for the motor on the 2nd highest from the top (see video). I thought maybe there was an issue with that specific motor, so I took it apart and swapped the bottom belt/motor with the one on the 2nd highest and experienced the exact same issue. What do you think causes this? Also why would it only affect the 2nd highest motor even when I exchanged motors? I took apart the problematic one to see if I could figure out why it’s doing it, but basic checks seemed fine, the tiny magnet seems secure in place.

I used 1300/1300 for retract/calibrate tension for a horizontal surface, and was just starting the 800x500 5x5 calibration procedure. I had to pull the power roughly 2 minutes into the procedure because the belts became tangled and folded on itself in several places.

That is very strange.

Did you update the .yaml file when you did the update? It’s possible that the changes to .yaml file structure could cause some weird behavior

yeah, each time I had to dismantle the bot, I would reflash using the full-install.sh and replace index.html.gz and maslow.yaml as if it were a totally fresh install. I’ve noticed that sometimes after pulling the plug during a failed calibration would put the bot into a weird state the next time I turned it on, so I got used to doing the whole fresh install on each attempt. I super glued all the nuts to make disassembly/assembly fast since I’d have to take the belt/motors out to untangle the belts. If the magnets are slipping, do you think I could put a larger blob of epoxy on the top of the magnet? I don’t know what the underlying issue is so I’m just trying random things hoping they might work.

doesn’t full-install.sh erase the memory completely anyway though? so the maslow.yaml would be wiped out at that time right?

Yeah, that should be a fully fresh install.

I don’t think that this is the magnets slipping, this looks like a software bug to me.

Can you try 1.07? Maybe it’s a bug in 1.08? There were a lot of changes that could impact this kind of thing

After receiving my new board also, after the first one couldn’t move the z axis, I also faced this issue of the machine unrolling too much. I tried different packages and nothing seemed to work. At one point it just stopped bunching it up like yours, nothing in changed in terms of method, but i never was able to get a calibration.
