Hi, just about to finish the M4 set up.
I was wondering if I’m missing something: Is the dust collecting done by a standard vacuume cleaner connected to the M4 dust collector?
If so, does it not significally increase the noise level?
you can hook a shop vac or dust collector system up to the dust collector port (assuming you 3d printed or purchased one like from The NOT Shop).
yes, the vacuum increases noise level somewhat, but dramatically reduces the dust, so decide what’s more important to you. Also be careful which hose you get, the cheap cut-to-length ones on amazon seem to be extra bad about building up static charge which can interfere with the Maslow. I ended up getting one of the cen-tec ones on sale for prime day and it has been much better.
Speaking of dust collecting, I am looking for the actual ID / OD dimensions of “The NOT Shop” dust collectors. I have a new Dewalt Stealthsonic shop vacuum (super quiet BTW!). The hose I have appears to measure 2.25 OD and 1.98 ID at the outer end, with a slight taper to larger on the OD, so I am assuming the 2.31 dust collector is what I want to print, but would like to confirm that actual design / printed part dimensions if anyone has that?
Are you satisfied with the Dewalt Stealthsonic shop vacuum?
The main parameter for me in the noise. Is it noisier than the Maslow in action?
I am very satisfied with it. Unbelievably quiet and still very powerful. I paired it with a Mullet cyclone to “pre-filter” the dust and it works great, and so far no dust has made it past the Mullet into the vacuum.
It is a lower pitch and far quieter than the router. I can stand 3 feet from the vacuum when running and have a conversation without having to shout or even raise my voice.
When doing dust collecting, do you install the 3d printed dust collector AS you are assembling your sled or is it easy to just “bolt on” after?
I installed the 3d adapter from the “not shop” to connect my fein turbo. I have a 5 gallon dust deputy separator that sits on top of the vacuum. The fein is arguably way quieter than the DeWalt router. Sure it’s an investment, but they last a long time. My first fein lasted 6 years of pretty regular CNC use before the motor went.
I just bolted on after, you do remove 2 screws (I think it was 2), but otherwise super simple.
