I have my Maslow hooked up to a dust collector and noticed that while it does a good job there can still be a fair amount of material that does not get sucked up. I figure this is due to the waste being thrown off at high speed into the underside of the upsweep of the sled where it can not be sucked up by the dust collection. I specifically mean this region that I have highlighted below:
To test this I modeled out a small part that would drop into the opening of the acrylic to force the air down into this region.
Doing a quick test with a 1/8 down cut bit shows that while the airflow is reduced it does pick up more waste. In the image below the left side was done with dust collection as normal but without the new part and the right was with it. The cuts are not straight as I didn’t clamp down the stock when testing.
The first iteration worked well but was not large enough to prevent the router’s nut from getting stuck to it.
If you want to play with the file here is an STL of an updated version that should not get stuck on the router. Maslow-Dust-Funnel/dust funnel.stl at main · tryonegg/Maslow-Dust-Funnel · GitHub
