First puzzle join tests for boat build

Successfully cut some test pieces. In fusion 360 I used ‘push / pull’ on faces on one piece only.

They fit together a little loose with 1mm clearance and the next test didn’t fit together with zero clearance. Next test will be. 5mm.

Hoping for a firm fit that needs a soft hammer massage.

For anyone that’s interested, I’m building an ozgoose sailing dinghy 12ft x 4ft.

Latest test cuts, 20mm stock, 0.5mm clearance.

Much nicer fit. I’ll use 0.5mm clearance for the proper boat panels.

Looks really good. Just curious where approx. on your frame was this cut performed (middle, off-center, etc). Historically middle has been most accurate but a lot of improvements have been made to the firmware.

These were actually in the bottom left corner of a 4x8 spoilboard. I did notice the top right belt going slack a few times.

I’m going to try and up the retract tension. It was only set to 750 when I was trying to get the machine to calibrate correctly.

My anchors are roughly 4.4m x 3.6m apart

retract tension only applies when applying tension, retracting, or finding
anchors, not for normal cutting. if you have a belt going slack during normal
cutting it means that the machines idea of where the anchors are is not quite
correct.

also, be aware that position errors on the maslow are not linear, they tend to vary (frequently in curves) over the work area. it is very repeatable, so you can compensate for it in cad (and in theory it could be corrected in the firmware, the problem in practice is figuring out how to properly measure small errors over long distances to make a map of what needs to be corrected)

so before you commit to cuts in expensive wood, check with cheap wood in various areas of your work area.

your frame is nice and large, so the entire work area is solidly ‘in the green’ from the frame calculator.
