Still no go.
A few observations:
I hear a squeak while extending or retracting the BL spool… but the arms seem (too) loose and wobbly. Normal?
There seems to be a lot of friction between sled and spoilboard (MDF). My “vertical” is about 21 degrees. Should I lube the board (I think I have some teflon spray)?
BL rarely retracts on the first try. Forces are both set to 1600.
The attachment of TL belt was folded over backwards. I had noticed a bulge in that winding. Is there any way to extend all the way out without just guessing? The trick you showed for adding to the extend distance while extending doesn’t work for me.

This certainly wouldn’t hurt!
Does it retract when taking measurements during calibration? That’s really the one that we care about. I think that this is the most important question. When taking each measurement all four belts should be fully tight.
The easiest way to do this is to just give that belt a tug when pressing “Retract All” so that it doesn’t fully pull in. After that pressing “Extend All” again will let you keep pulling out more.
Will you post the log from this run so that I can compare?

This is the first measurement from three different runs. It looks like on the middle one the first bl measurement was off but on the first and last one they seem pretty consistent which means everything seems to be working.
What grid size and number of points are you using? Maybe let’s try changing those to see if anything changes that we can learn from?
Wow, that is interesting. I’ll switch from 500 x 500, 3 x 3 to something bigger in the morning.

Some success. Calibration completed with 300 x 300, 3 x 3 grid.
I sprayed some furniture polish on the board… it was still wet when I ran calibration.

You did the right first step of backing up the .yaml file.
You could try going bigger with the grid and maybe get an even more precise calibration, or you could call it good enough and move on to cutting things.
The first thing I would do is to use the arrow buttons to jog around a bit and make sure that all four belts stay tight
I was going to try a bigger grid (400 × 400, 5 x 5), but it started by pulling the sled off the board top. I stopped it there, and will try again in a little while. Luckily I was able to sling the sled with my rigging that lifts my frame.
There is definitely some issue with the BL belt - driver or motor or something else.
OI have thr retraction and calibration forces set to 1700, and that belt only pulls in intermittently. It often doesn’t start to retract, or stops short of home.
I saw it stop once when the belt end caught (barely) on the bottom of the spoil board, which does not normally stop retraction.
What further testing can I do to isolate the problem?
p.s.
I tried the 300 x 300 3x3 calibration again, and it succeeded, with a lower fitness.
Then I jogged around, but noticed that the BL belt is not aligned with its arm… that can’t be right, right?
Look at this:
Looks like something is stopping that arm from rotating freely, maybe a bolt or nut has fallen out between arms. It will affect your results
It doesn’t seem that way - I can lift it easily, it is slack.
Is it likely being caused by the spool - arm friction that other people have sanded out?
On a closer look at your photo, both bottom belts are not aligning (i.e. pointing at the centre), have both got slack? Maybe it is binding on one or more arms, that is a major pain to fix.
I’m done for now - going out of town for the weekend.
I’ve got the sled down on a table, and I’m ready to take it apart, unless I hear of another solution by Monday.
To disassemble, I remove the linear rod supports, then disconnect the four support towers and the lower router clamp so I can take the arms off?

I think that this does sound like everything we’ve seen points to there being something funky with the BL arm. I think that taking it apart and seeing if there is anything noticeably off in there is a reasonable thing to do.
