I know we’re getting way off topic here, but what dual gear extruder setup did you go with? I’ve been debating going to direct drive instead of the Bowden setup. I also bought the cheap kit with Capricorn tubing and upgraded bed springs, and the tubing does help some with the flexible filaments being tighter tolerances. Otherwise no real changes. I totally forgot that I do have a dial gauge (manual but still) in the shop for setting up gear preload and checking piston deck heights. I bet there’s an adapter out there I could print to use it to level my bed too…
Mine is a PRUSA i3 MK3s with magnetic bed.
I have the Ender 3 (non-pro), and I upgraded to the BTT’s SKR mini E3 v2. It’s also a 32 bit board and is very very quiet. I recommend as I believe you may be able to find it a bit cheaper than the original Creality 32 bit quiet board. Plenty of YouTube videos about it, and it is a very easy drop in replacement. If you are working through TT’s tuning tools page, then I would say you both know about getting the firmware updated, so compiling and flashing the SKR isn’t that difficult (again, plenty of How to vids out there).
As for TT, he has a lot of good things out there, but I also like and reference CHEP on the YouTubes as well. He as some pretty easy videos to follow, particularly with using Cura and getting some settings set right. I have also upgraded to a direct drive set up for my machine The link is the one I use as I have a cable chain up front, but I think if you search Direct Drivinator. I have found that there are less issues as I have worked to get it tuned back in. It has been a great and fun little machine. I am now trying to figure out how to convince the better half to let me get a CR-10 Max ($800ish+) with a 15"x15"x15" printing capacity.
Too many toys for too many projects in my head…and no time to get them all done either!! HA!!!
This one. My first was a print it yourself version with a “beta” gearkit that Printrbot (remember them?) sold a handful of for around $20, on my KS Plywood Plus. For this price it’s hard to go wrong, I’ll be adding it to my Thingybot Delta if I ever actually use it again.
After building a Maslow, I’m thinking skip the CR10 Max. Just hit up openbuilds and buy some rails, extend the ender 3 cables, build a new frame with a build volume only limited by your wallet!
Maybe my wife was right, I’m deep down the rabbit hole these days…
I’ve seen that one, I just haven’t pulled the trigger yet, though I should. I have been focusing on my Maslow so I can get that back up and running properly. I have most everything, though I need to recut my Meticulous-Z parts and print a new clamp that @ShadyG came up with. I got the Maslow dialed in (I think), and I have a project I have to cut for a buddy, and then I’ll be redoing my frame (wall mounting it) and also adding in an RPi for remote controlling.
As I said, too many projects I want to do, and never enough time (and sometimes depth of wallet) to do it all!!
I think your wife has been talking to mine!!
I have been keeping an eye on the V1 MPCNC as I have seen someone use that model to build a super large capacity 3DP, and I have thought about buying the aluminum extrusion to expand the Ender myself, the issue would be finding a heated bed large enough for what I want to do. With that, I understand the power requirement would be different than what I have, and that is about where my knowledge stops. With the V1, they have a community like ours here, and many also have a swap-able laser too, so that has piqued my interest, and will be part of my pitch to the wife to fund it. I just have to get up and running on my printer and Maslow so I don’t get the “you have that thing and don’t really use it, why do you need that!!”
Again…very far down the rabbit hole in my mind, and I keep making turns and detours and loop backs!!!
Well, I’m at a loss. I finally got some STL files exported from my design and my g-code file prepped in a zip folder. Tried to upload as a design to the community garden but appears they aren’t allowing uploads currently. Tried on Thingiverse, but their site is not working at all for me. Log in and get a “something went wrong” error. Any other way you guys normally share files?
Thingiverse is experiencing one of it’s periodic breakage events. I’ve had an account there for over 10 years, but haven’t been very active for the last 4 or 5 with no uploads or comments. A design I posted around 2012 remains fairly popular; I added a payment account because somebody wanted to tip me a couple bucks maybe 6 months ago (no, I didn’t get rich, they apparently lost interest). Like a whole lot of other people they’ve recently declared my account as “under moderation” and won’t let me log in. Reddit says they’ve sent emails that they’re “working on it” but don’t expect any quick repairs. Stratobot’s not very interested in TV these days so expect it to continue to deteriorate.
That’s my fault. It was getting spammed constantly. If you email the files to bar a maslowcnc.com I will get them posted for you.
The community garden is somewhat on ice these days, but I am working on a much better replacement (MaslowCreate.org) but it’s still not quite ready
Oh ok, great! I will email them over to you then. Thanks for all your work on this! Can’t wait to see what you have in store for us.
@bar Nice to hear there will be a new site. I tried to go look at what you have for now, but alas, the work intrerwebs has it blocked (never let us have any fun!!). I’ll be checking it out as soon as I get home though!
@Spenc can’t wait to see the files in the Community Garden. It will get put on the growing larger by the thought To-Do List as it combines my 2 favorite past times at the moment: woodworking/CNC and 3D printing.
Thank you both for all the work!!
