M2 Stepper Motor alternatives

While I await the arrival of my maslow4, I am still using the M2. With that being said, I run my machine pretty hard. I have not had any issues until the past couple of days where the sled would start acting erratic while in the middle of a cut. I am 99% sure the stepper is going bad as it gets very hot in comparison to the other one. Is there a source other than Maker Make to buy replacement steppers? Perhaps upgraded steppers that can handle more use, heaving loads etc? Or am I stuck with what I get from maker made?

what stepper did they use? The stepper part number has all sorts of details
about it, but without knowing what they shipped, you would have to wait for them

I just asked a similar question on a new thread. Did you ever find replacement motors or info on how to find them like the gear ratio?

I believe you can replace them with a NEMA 23, although I haven’t had to do it yet, so I can’t guarantee that it will work. Steps specs will be included with a new motor (and you can look them up), and you will of course have to recalibrate. You can change the settings in MakerVerse to suit the steps/mm of the motor as well. If you need help, let me know, I think I have a document about it saved somewhere.

I researched this a while back, and actually found that I did not have a lazy motor, my calibration was just WAY out of it’s mind. No idea how it happened, but my machine went wonky and couldn’t cut a straight horizontal line without turning it into a hockey stick. I re-hung the chains, and went through a full calibration of absolutely everything (including measurements and levels), and it worked perfectly again.

Within a few days, I had the same issue with jerky movements and awful inaccuracy. I had been trying to use UGS to control my M2, and it just wasn’t working. The problem appeared to be that another program accessing the machine had actually changed some settings in the DUE, and it interfered with MakerVerse. Now I stick with the MakerVerse program because it works, and the machine is stable and reliable for months.
