Persistence Pays Off! Theatre Set Building

Aloha,

I’ve had my Maslow 4 for a while—got it as a Kickstarter supporter—and started (tried) to use it in June. It was going to be the great labor saver for the set for Seussical the Musical, only…

Well, it was one thing after another, all part of my learning curve.

I’m nothing if not stubborn, though; another set has begun (Murder on the Orient Express) and I again designed with the capabilities of the Maslow 4 in mind.

And after only a week of striving, it’s alive!

There’s a lot left to do, but I feel like the odds are finally in my favor! And it’s thanks to the maestros, @bar, @dlang , and many others!

Mahalo,

ETA,

I have a time lapse of the cut for the two big half-ellipses, but Iʻve reduced the resolution as much as I could, and itʻs still too big.

Looking great! Good work!

Your efforts will yield dividends for future generations of set builders to come, every issue that we can find and solve now is one that folks in the future will never have to think about.

Hopefully some day soon we can live in the world of every set builder in the world having access to cheap large format CNC routing that just works out of the box with no fiddling.

I’m happy to be with you on the cutting edge…and a group of friends who are planning a Halloween fundraiser (one is the handyman who did our wonderful kitchen renovation a couple of years ago) were in the theater yesterday, saw the Maslow 4 in action, and got very excited. The handyman’s wife said, “Oooo, I want one for all our Halloween decor,” but of course they don’t need to get one of their own; this is a community resource.
