I was working getting the animal chairs into an easily shareable format, and i noticed they would fit on the board a lot better if i didn’t have to mirror half of them.
That made me think that i could just include a template so you can route the dados into the sides of the chairs afterwards.
Now most routers include a template thingy like this. Bit they come in various sizes.
Now i had an idea and i wanted to check if my logic is sound.
- I just include the template file without an offset
- for the inside of the template you set your tool diameter to the outer diameter of the template ring but cut with any bit you like (that fits in the ring)
- afterwards you keep the same bit in your router, but install the template ring
I think the offsets cancel eachother out like that, and everyone can use the same file to make a template.
