Connection Issues

I feel like I’m beating a dead horse on this issue, but for some reason I don’t seem to be connecting to my machine. I have moved my Maslow4 into my house to insure that I have highspeed internet, which I do. I have two computers side by side, one hooked to the captive WiFi, and one on the Forums page for Maslowcnc.com.
When I go through the setup page on the Maslow WiFi, nothing happens. The fan never turns on, although there are lights everywhere on the machine. Every connection on the machine has a light and it’s on. On the Captive WiFi, under the control panel on the right, it says No Files Found. Under that is the red Alarm text, and under that are messages, "No heartbeat from the machine in 10 seconds. Please check connection.
How do I check connections? Is there no way to verify my assembly?
Is there a step by step checklist or software instructions. The Forum is great for information, but sometimes you need immediate answers.

when you hook to the captive wifi, are you using a popup browser that’s the
result of ‘you need to sign in to the network’ type of prompt? or are you using
a regularly launched browser? on many systems, the popup browser is not fully
functional.

The fan only turns on when the motors try to move.

Every connection on the machine has a light and it’s on.

On the Captive WiFi, under the control panel on the right, it says No Files
Found. Under that is the red Alarm text

if you click on the alarm, does it turn to idle?

and under that are messages, "No heartbeat from the machine in 10 seconds.

that is saying that the browser and the maslow are not talking to each other
over wifi. This could be that your browser disconnected because it was idle too
long, your computer put the wifi to sleep, or something like that.

It could also be the result of running through the ‘you need to sign in to the
captive portal’ browser instead of using a regular browser.

Is there no way to verify my assembly? Is there a step by step checklist or
software instructions. The Forum is great for information, but sometimes you

Just the assembly/setup instructions right now, we welcome suggestions for
improvements on them.

Thanks for your comments, David. I know the fan should come on when the motors run. Thats my point. I hit the extend all and even if they don’t extend, the fan should come on for the extension. Nothing happens regardless of what command I give.
I know about the separate wifi’s. That is why I pointed out that I was running two computers, side by side. One is connected to my home wifi for the maslowcnc website, and the other is on the maslow wifi for the Captive wifi. When I click on the red alarm button, it turns green and says idle.
So as I have been typing this note, I have also turned on the Maslow4 and gone through the Captive wifi steps I have the control panel up and go to setup and it brings up the machine control panel. Same process, i hit extend all and nothing happens. I feel that I cannot force the arms to extend without breaking the machine and by the fan not coming on, I don’t think I should try. I’m fairly sure the computer is not talking to the M4, but I don’t know what else to do.
Any thoughts?

if you hit the test button, does it show that it’s connected to everything?

when you pry at the belts to extend them, you do have to do so hard enough that
you think you will break them

When I hit the Test button, it goes through a list saying “magnet detected on bottom right, motor detected bottom right, encoder connected bottom right, motor detected bottom left, magnet detected bottom left”, and then " No heartbeat from machine in 10 seconds. Please check connection".
Now what? Is that the only way to check connections? Can the system be rebooted?

Ok, that says that everything is plugged in anc talking correctly.

when you updated the firmware, did you update the index.html.gz as well?
Assuming that there is not a wifi connectivity or computer sleep problem, a
mismatch in firmware/index versions is the next most likely problem

Can you walk me through updating the firmware? I’ve tried on several occasions, but must be doing something wrong.
Jon

Just to check. When you start this, did you have a red “Alarm” button below the play and pause and stop buttons or was it “Idle”? If its “alarm” just click it to release the maslow to do things.

I started writing an answer and had to peek in the user guide to see where the buttons were in the fluid UI… Then I deleted the start of my answer and I will just refer to the user guide which explains it step by step.

scroll down to: How to update your firmware:
Change the firmware.bin with the update button and delete the old Maslow and index file and upload the new ones.

Succes!

I just posted a video on this too! Here is the link
