@lloredaCNC A little advice on posting your email in forums:

  • posting it direct readable might give you loads of SPAM. Spambot search the net for addresses like that
  • you can post your email like 'johndoh(at)csimiami(dot)com but newer spambots can read that now
  • better you delete your post now

Did you end up posting the link for the file somewhere? It seems like a few of us would like to try it out!

Clint, It looks like the Nimble Stool is no longer on Open Desk. Can you post the zip so I can make them to go with my Standup Desk?

I finished my Nimble Stool last night! It was certainly quite the learning process. The Maslow did great and cut as expected.

Probably my biggest frustration was getting the pockets in the ring and the seat sized appropriately. In CAD and my SVG file they were accurate, but when using the pocket operation in MakerCAM, that operation undersized them by about 1/16" (I had roughing clearance set at 0). Finally last night I programmed a profile operation in MakerCAM using the same SVG that I used for the pocket operation. I used the profile operation to face all of the pockets and it took off about a 1/32" all the way around on each pocket. After that everything fit perfectly.

Has anyone else noticed this when cutting pockets with MakerCAM?

Looks great!!!

I love the old arm being used as a buffer

I hadn’t noticed that issue with MakerCAM but I will keep an eye out for it. That sounds like a bug for sure, but I like the solution of running one last profile on the pockets to clean them up :+1:

Thanks! I save my various scraps for buffers and just screw them down where needed.

Still need get around to building a new frame

I had a similar issue with some pockets via MakerCAM. My theory is that because the path spirals out from the centre the bit naturally wants to move into the center because there is less resistance. So it will never cut the correct size while the bit is able to move to the center. My guess is the new ring kit system might help with this. In the meantime i cut just the outline of the pocket and manually remove the middle away from the Maslow. Coincidentally, I just put together my Nimble Stool last night…

Excellent! Your stool looks great. I really like the monogram on the seat and that you doubled up the legs and seat.

Good hypothesis on the undersized pockets; we should be able to test that by changing the direction of the cut (I cut my pockets counterclockwise with an upcut bit); my thinking is if one direction based on the spiral of the bit is pulling it out of the cut; then the other direction would pull it into the cut.

Did not think of that, will have to give that a go. Regretting not doubling up on the foot rest too, it now looks a little thin and flimsy in comparison to the rest of it. Very happy with it though.
