I’m still only part way through the process. This is after carving and then painting in all of the carved features. Next is 4 layers of polyurethane, and then carefully cutting it to fit as the face panel for the kitchen drawers I’ve made. This is 18mm ply and roughly 1.5m x 0.75m.
WOW thats gunna look sweet
Thank you very much @sweetmeets
How did you paint the lines? Just wipe off any excess paint that comes up over the carved areas? Did you apply anything to the wood before? I am about to try the same thing with some v-bit engraving.
I used a round nosed bit, and after that I would say that a v-bit would have been easier.
I did an experiment on scrap piece of plywood where I poured a little paint on and then scraped it over the surface with a card scraper. Didn’t work, the plywood had too much grain and I ended up with the whole piece being too dark.
I just used a small artists paint brush and went over the whole thing, it was very slow. I found that sometimes it was easier to paint one side of the groove and then come back later and paint the other side. I think with a v-shaped groove this would be even easier.
The last thing I did is go over the whole thing with a belt sander, but putting no pressure on it. If you have better quality ply than what I can get here, something where the top layer of ply is more than a few microns thick, this should be a good finishing step.
Didn’t cut it with the maslow but, have been experimenting with printing ABS parts for the Maslow. I always wondered why people put 3D printers in enclosures, duh, now I know, ABS is very particular. Now I have an enclosure, we shall see if it solves my issues with ABS.
looks just like my printer. (minus the enclosure)
Mine too. The E3P is a great printer, less than a third the price of my Printrbot in 2011
Lol, I was just thinking of doing the same thing for my Ender 3! Nice work!
Now that is just plain awesome.
Seriously awesome!
Glad you got it working! It looks really good!
Testing out my new Z-Axis Upgrade “Rigid Lift”. Made an overly complicated table saw push stick, and a guitar stand for my brother. Of course I failed an attempt to just to keep me humble.
Impressive, sir.
