For the Peanuts aficionados, this iconic yard art will be instantly recognized. For others, Snoopy has 7 siblings, and the one the appeared most in the comic strip was his brother Spike who lives alone in the desert in California. Spike appeared numerous times with “Joe Cactus”.
Please tell me that you used something like a stiff wire between the two figures. Otherwise, that’s one really skinny cut that could snap.
@MartinJ,
LOL! That is a short piece of RG6 coax.
On a slightly more serious note, these figures are cut out of 1/2" Extira which highly water resistant but mills similar to MDF. I put a piece in a cup of water for 2 months just to see how it would hold up; other than a water stain left by evaporation, there was no deterioration. I was also concerned about Spike’s whiskers and Joe Cactus’ thorns, but the Extira turnout out to be more than strong enough for this purpose.
So, where did you purchase this Extira? Home Depot, Lowes, and 84 Lumber don’t seem to carry the panels (I only found trim). I guess that I will have to become friends with one of the smaller specialty lumber yards around.
The only place in Texas that I know carries Extira sheets is Brazos Forest Products.
how much more is it than mdf?
It’s about 3X the cost of MDF in my neck of the woods for 1/2" thick material
I decided to breathe new life into my kids Ikea dollhouse for Christmas. It’s a velcro on facade modeled with a certain popular ice queen’s castle in mind , complete with balcony.
So, I have recently resurrected my Maslow after being commissioned to do a few pieces for a friend of mine. Here is the first of the 2 pieces. This is by far the largest piece I have done to date (roughly 5ft x 3.5ft.! That is a 24" level on the side for sizing.
I’ll need to redo my Meticulous. I had another failure on my spindle bracket. I’ll be looking to figure out a better solution (if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know and I will be forever grateful!). For now though, I had pretty good results going back to the original sled and Z-axis set up, and will be looking to finish up the other piece after the new year.
Did you get that design off etsy?
Not sure where he got it from. He texted me the image, I sent it to myself in email, and then I used your tutorial to for Inscape->EstlCAM-> Gcode to get it cut.
Why, if I may ask? Need it? I’d be happy to share.
I thought I saw it on etsy. Just curious. I had someone ask for one and I was checking commercial license details a while back. I like it!
This looks like the image, it’s a PNG, so would need to be traced in Inkscape or Illustrator.
http://clipart-library.com/clip-art/silhouette-manger-scene-3.htm
It says licensed for personal use.
Hmm, now just need to find the wisemen.
I was a PNG that he sent me, and it looks like the one Jamtek has posted. Just let me know if you want it, though I am sure the Googles can provide the same copy. Thanks for the like!!
Just looking at it is making me hungry
These look great. Nice idea. Could these be cut in foam using the Maslow M2 do you think?
Thanks, I dont know much about the M2 but I don’t see why not.
