I just got the Maslow in April.
Here’s some random stuff I have done with it in the past 5 weeks
I really like the darth vader aztec calendar piece… what bit did you use for that?
The pocketing and carving bit setups look really good. I can’t tell if you are cutting and stacking for the bowl or if you are pocketing and engraving inside the pocket. Very cool!
Thanks Orob,
The Starwars Calendar was all 60 degree vcarve then .25 endmill profile. It took 5.5 hours in MDF. Don’t forget to exclude the outer profile circle on the Vcarve or it will invert the selections. I just spray painted with metallic paint.
I got the file here: Free Download - 3axis.co
And information here: The Star Wars Universe CNC Project - YouTube
I haven’t tried stacking yet, I’m not sure if it would be better or quicker.
Most of the trays are just pocket, engrave, and profile cutout.
I did one with pocket1, pocket2 around 3d carved section , 3d carve, vcarve, and profile cutout.
I got the basic idea here:

John
I haven’t seen anyone do that pocket and engrave technique before. It’s super neat!
I made a picture for our local yoga studio. It’s VCarved in 1/2" MDF with a cut up a 2x4 for the frame. The Maslow just keeps impressing me with what it can do.
very nice contrast between the black carved and white wood, what technique did you use to paint it?
It is stained and painted MDF. I mixed a dark stain with Shellac and covered the whole thing to seal the MDF and color the V-Carved bits. (Unsealed MDF bleeds and absorbs paint) Then I painted the top surface with a foam roller. To keep the light paint out of the dark grooves, go slow and take many passes. Make sure to use light pressure and use the paint tray or some other surface to squish almost all of the paint out of the roller before hitting your project. I used latex paint left over from painting one of the bedrooms.
Here’s a foam roller.
Oh man that is beautiful! And I like your technique.
Thanks for posting that, it made my day
A couple weeks old but had a lot of fun carving these guys out while cleaning up the shop. The fox was for a friend’s baby shower

Several friends to help get it done
Wow!!
Here’s a few more maslow made gifts for friends and family. Holidays include, birthday, graduation, nerdy like me day, and one for my neighbors side gig.
You are very talented!
that graduation one is a very nice 3d cut? How big is it and what bits were used Please?
Hi, Thanks. For the Graduation note, its 190mm by 140, all speeds were 2.5 on the Makita with a 30in/min feed exported from Vectric with the Easel plugin. I started with a 3d clearing pass with a 1/4 endmill leaving 1mm machining allowance, then a 3d carve with a 1/16 tip tapered ball nose at 9% stepover, then a 60 degree vcarve for the text, and finally a 1/4 compression bit cutout. I did a little sanding, a quick brush with Walrus oil, and a 3 stage beall buff.
Dammit that’s what I get for being lazy.lol had the same idea tho good job!! Looks nice
