No, was a bit time constrained getting this done.
It looks fantastic!
Are those a couple of dog silhouettes in the skyline or am I seeing things?
You can see anything in that skyline, but a dog (Sylvia) is the theme.
Learning Inkscape has been incredible for me. Just finished designing a bathroom medicine cabinet with it. Did the designer give you a reference drawing or photo to convert? or did you do it by hand?
Designer chalked out shape on the MDF, which I then photographed. Loaded the photos into Gimp, created a new transparent layer and traced out the edges. Hid the original layer and saved to a new picture which I then loaded into inkscape. Saved as an inkscape file and loaded it into KrabzCam to generate the nc files. manually modified that file to only cut out the “tops”. Bit of fiddling but it worked out well.
Cornhole boards are turning out nice. Have some more clean up work before I paint and lay acrylic resin.
Dang! These came out gorgeous!
Nice work!!
Love it!
I’m working on a couple of bigger projects that won’t be ready for a while so I want to share more in-progress pictures.
Today I cut out a couple of these decorative screens:
Here’s a time-lapse of cutting those out:
The pause at the beginning is because I was cutting too deep into my spoil board so I re-generated the gcode with the right wood thickness.
They’re meant to be dividers for the shower part of a van build and will have a translucent waterproof backer behind them.
I also cut out four sheets like this to make 12 of these shelves:
I’m cutting this 1/2 inch wood in one pass which works great but it leads to a lot of this stringy fluff that was getting wrapped around the router bit and preventing it from cooling properly:
Adding some tape to force more airflow thorough the cut slot and less through the dust cover opening helped a lot to fix that issue so we might want to shrink the opening in that clear dust cover for better airflow at some point:
When it came time to cut the shelves I had an issue with the z-axis losing some steps between cuts resulting it it leaving drag marks. To fix that I increased the drive current for the steppers from 1A to 1.3A which seems to have fixed it. Its really important to use the machine to get things like that dialed in.
It’s kinda boring cutting a bunch of squares, but I think that I did achieve my personal best for percentage of a sheet of plywood cut up which is fun ![]()
I now have a vision of a campervan with a barrel sauna on a trailer ![]()
Very inspirational to see your projects Bar!
Thats gorgeous! I am planning on something similar for a closet door… if I ever find time to get to it ![]()
Maybe a plug that pushes into the dust cover, could also reduce dust getting into the motors and arms.
Genius, that is a much more clever idea than replacing the cover entirely. I am going to experiment with 3D printing some of those
Of course the community has already solved this problem perfectly ![]()
Wow! That’s impressive actually. What RPM and Feedrate do you run then?
I was using the router on the lowest speed setting #1 and cutting at between 1800 and 2000 (I started at 1800 and cut at 2000mm/min).
I’m going to be using one pass for most things going forward except for maybe 3/4 plywood. It’s just so quick to make things that way.
Having a sharp router bit really helps too. I’ve had the same handful of bits for years now and I finally got some new ones and they’re way better when they are new ![]()
So that amounts to around 16000 RPM according to the manual. What type and size of bit do you have?
The spindle we have only goes to 12000 RPM.
Can’t get up to those speeds with the 1/8 single flute we use at the moment, but we’re going to test a few different ones with more flutes to see what we can get when we start cutting a bit rougher parts.
I have totally forgotten to upload any projects though. Seems they never get done, but sometimes I manage to focus until the end.
Here’s the album for the first project I did with the Maslow. It’s not completely done, but the scorecounter can wait.
Turn down your volume btw…. I almost killed my girlfriend when I looked through the videos….![]()
