Project of the Week / Community Gardener for April 25, 2018

Nominations are open for this week’s Project of the Week (PotW) and Community Gardener (CG) awards. You can nominate simply by replying to this thread. Self-nominations are allowed.

The selected project will be highlighted in the Maslow newsletter. The user will receive a “Project of the Week” or “Community Gardener” badge on the forums, a cold hard tungsten carbide prize from Bar and Hannah, and @Scotty’s gcode file for cutting out your initial…as long as that initial is “N”.

The approximate weekly schedule is: nominations close no earlier than Saturday, voting Sunday & Monday, announcement Tuesday. After nominations from the community have been made, I’ll post a poll for the community to pick a winner. If we don’t get enough nominations, I will randomly select projects from previous weeks’ nominations, the back issues of the Maslow newsletter, Made on Maslow, and of course the Community Garden website to appear in a poll. Projects that don’t win in a poll can be renominated on subsequent weeks. Any project can only win once, but any person can win multiple times.

What makes a PotW? It can be a project (old or new) made on a Maslow CNC that shows off the Maslow’s capabilities, or demonstrates a new way of using the Maslow, or just plain looks cool. There is also a Maslow Community Contributor of the Week for great contributions to the Maslow community, which is run by TheRiflesSpiral; nominations which better fit that award will be forwarded to him.

What makes a Community Gardener? It can be anyone who creates or contributes to a project on the Community Garden website (http://maslowcommunitygarden.org/ 2 12). By posting to the CG, you make the project available to the community and you create the opportunity for other users to improve on your design. Vote however you like, but I hope to encourage collaborative projects.

Final note: like most things here on the forums, the community is what makes PotW/CG successful. Suggestions for improving the PotW/CG and volunteers to help run the thread are always welcome.

As stated in the call for nominations, self-nominations are welcome! C’mon people, don’t be humble. Follow @BarryRalphs’ lead and nominate your own project. And remember, even if you don’t think your creation is competitive this week, once it’s been nominated, it is eligible for random renomination in future slow weeks.

I saw a very cool corner shelf, but I don’t think it was in the projects category. Does anyone remember where that was? I nominate it!

I also nominate @Bee for this test cut, which is just the mountains test cut, but the idea of filming it from the back is awesome and since project of the week is about encouraging folks to post more projects in the forums so we can all enjoy them and since this project is really well presented and brought me a lot of enjoyment I nominate it!

(also my friend Mimi thinks it’s hilarious that people all around the world are making her jewelry holder)

@jwolter I’d gladly make a gcode file for the initial of the winner

Nope. They were mentioned in the newsletter in February, just before I started doing the PotW threads, so they are on my list of potential nominees, but they have never come up in the random selection. I assume you would like to nominate them for this week. (Edit: I thought they hadn’t been mentioned at all until I searched for the right terms)

There’s lots of gold buried in them thar forums!

I’m going to contradict myself. I discovered that @brazz04 apparently did win PotW for his Austin, Texas map. It was awarded just before I started doing this, so I didn’t have any record of it. Congratulations, brazz04!

I nominate Scotty’s script letter N, both for the nice, elegant letter, but especially for including a tutorial.

This was a great week for PotW, with some really tough choices. The prize goes to mlugo and students’ Somers Middle School Triceratops!

For CG, one vote separated the winner, the Edge Clamp Connector, from the next finisher.

Great projects, everyone!
